APRE believes that partnerships with critical government agencies and non-government and health professional organizations in the United States and Canada is vital for disseminating science-based research and supporting educational initiatives that encourage healthy eating patterns among consumers.
APRE is a National Strategic Partner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion’s (USDA/CNPP) MyPlate and supports its message to, “Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.”
The MyPlate icon was developed by USDA/CNPP as part of a larger communications initiative and is based on the healthy eating patterns documented in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The MyPlate icon uses the mealtime place setting to illustrate the five food groups (fruits, vegetables, protein, grains, and dairy) and their relative proportions within a meal to encourage Americans to make food choices that are consistent with a healthy diet.
The ChooseMyPlate.gov website provides Americans with practical information and tips to balance their caloric intake, increase their intake of foods that provide shortfall nutrients, and reduce their intake of foods that provide relatively few nutrients.
